However, his crowning achievement came in 2014 when he guided the South Sydney Rabbitohs to their first NRL premiership in 43 years, cementing his reputation as an elite coach.

Following his tenure at Souths, Maguire took on the challenging role at the Wests Tigers before making a name for himself at the State of Origin level. In 2024, he orchestrated a stunning 2-1 series win for New South Wales over Billy Slater’s Queensland, breaking the Maroons’ stronghold on the competition. Then, in a surprise move, Maguire replaced Kevin Walters as Brisbane’s head coach, a decision that sparked debate but one he is determined to justify.
