Anthony Edwards Ejected in Fiery Clash with Lakers, Suspended After Hitting Technical Foul Limit

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was ejected during Thursday night’s 111-102 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers after receiving two technical fouls. Despite contributing 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists in just 26 minutes, Edwards’ night ended abruptly following his second unsportsmanlike technical.

The trouble began when Edwards picked up his first technical foul after shoving Lakers forward Jarred Vanderbilt. That call marked his 15th technical foul of the season, placing him one away from the league-mandated suspension threshold. Later in the game, Edwards directed profanity toward an official, earning his 16th technical and an automatic ejection. With that, Edwards now faces a one-game suspension unless the NBA rescinds one of his technicals.

Following the game, Crew Chief James Williams addressed the ejection in a pool report with Jovan Buha of The Athletic. When asked about the first technical, Williams explained, “Anthony Edwards was called for his first unsportsmanlike technical foul for shoving Jarred Vanderbilt in the back.” Regarding the second technical, Williams confirmed, “Yes. [Edwards] was issued his second unsportsmanlike technical foul for directing profanity towards the game official.”

Williams also acknowledged that the officiating crew was aware Edwards’ second technical would lead to an automatic ejection. Unless the league overturns one of the calls, Edwards will be suspended for the Timberwolves’ next game against the Utah Jazz. His absence could be a significant blow as Minnesota looks to maintain its position in the Western Conference standings.
