Osea Kolinisau’s Historic Coaching Victory Propels Fiji Men’s 7s to Dubai Glory, Proving Local Talent Can Conquer the World

The remarkable achievement of the Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team in Dubai recently has proven that a local coach can lead the team to success on the world stage.

Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, praised Osea Kolinisau for his first-ever title as a coach after just three tournaments in the World Series. For years, Fiji relied on overseas coaches such as Ben Ryan, Gareth Baber, and Ben Gollings to guide the team.

However, Kolinisau’s triumph has shifted the perspective, demonstrating that local talent can rise to the occasion and lead the team to victory.

Saukuru expressed his gratitude, noting that the team is now on the right track under Kolinisau’s leadership. “We’ve been relying on overseas coaches for a long time, but Osea Kolinisau has shown that we can do it ourselves,” he said.

The Minister believes this success is a significant step forward in the World Series for Fiji. The achievement has garnered recognition from former coach Ben Ryan, who lauded Kolinisau’s potential, stating that he could become Fiji’s best 7s coach ever.

Kolinisau’s success marks a new chapter for Fiji 7s, with the team now gearing up for the Cape Town 7s in South Africa. There, they will face Great Britain and Uruguay in pool play. Meanwhile, the Fijiana side will take on USA and Great Britain. This victory in Dubai has set the stage for what promises to be an exciting season ahead for Fiji’s rugby 7s teams.
