Blues’ Right-Edge Rampage: Bellamy Warns Maroons of Even Bigger Storm in Game Two
Westpac NSW Blues advisor Craig Bellamy has issued a stern warning to Queensland ahead of Game Two, declaring the Blues’ lethal right edge will only get sharper. After a dominant 18-6 win in the Origin opener, where three of their four tries came down the right side, Bellamy believes the best is yet to come.
Winger Zac Lomax was a standout, scoring twice and setting up a stunning try for fullback Dylan Edwards with one of two audacious passes. Centre Stephen Crichton played a starring role despite nursing a corked thigh just days earlier, while halfback Nathan Cleary, returning to the Origin arena, was involved in all four tries.
Speaking to NRL.com, Bellamy credited the cohesion between Cleary, Crichton, Lomax, and second-rower Liam Martin — three of whom share strong Penrith connections — as a key factor in the side’s right-side dominance.
“That edge did a really good job,” Bellamy said. “They’ve played a lot of footy together and that understanding showed. I think our attack will only get better as they continue to gel.”
With Game Two set for June 19 at Optus Stadium, where the Blues remain unbeaten, the focus now shifts to refining combinations and maintaining momentum.
“We’re going to give it our best shot,” Lomax said. “Having Nathan and Critta next to me gives me confidence. We’ll go back to our clubs, come back better, and aim to wrap the series up in Perth.”
