Eels Trio Make State of Origin History: Cherrington, Church, and Owen Shine on Rugby League’s Biggest Stage
The Parramatta Eels are proud to celebrate a major milestone for their NRLW program, with three standout players—Kennedy Cherrington, Abbi Church, and Rory Owen—earning selection for the 2025 Women’s State of Origin series. Game 1 is scheduled for Wednesday, May 1 at Brisbane’s iconic Suncorp Stadium.
Kennedy Cherrington and Abbi Church, both foundation members of the Eels’ inaugural NRLW squad, have been named in the New South Wales Blues team, marking a significant moment in their respective careers. For Church, the call-up is a career-first, capping off a stellar 2024 season that saw her crowned Dally M Fullback of the Year. Her speed, vision, and reliability at the back have made her one of the most exciting talents in the game, and now she has the opportunity to showcase her skills on the Origin stage.
Cherrington’s selection signals a triumphant return to representative footy after a challenging 2024 season in which she was sidelined by injury.
