Fiji 7s Triumphs in Nail-Biting Clash Against Great Britain, Secures Semi-Final Spot in Cape Town
The Fiji Airways Men’s 7s team secured a spot in the top four at the Cape Town 7s after a thrilling 17-12 victory over Great Britain in their final pool match. The win ensures Fiji’s advancement to the semi-finals, where they will face France later tonight.
Fiji started strong with tries from Joji Nasova and Sevuloni Mocenacagi, both of which went unconverted, giving them a 10-0 lead at halftime. However, Great Britain came out fighting in the second half, quickly crossing Fiji’s tryline twice, shifting the momentum in their favor.
As the game grew tense in the final minutes, Fiji dug deep and, in a dramatic turn of events, Terio Tamani broke through to score the match-winning try, pushing Fiji ahead 17-12.
Despite a last-ditch effort from Great Britain to reclaim the lead, Fiji’s defense held firm, and a floating pass was knocked forward as time expired, sealing the win. Earlier in the day, Fiji had delivered a commanding 70-7 victory over Uruguay. The semi-final clash with France kicks off at 11:56 pm.
