Hamilton Takes the Lead: F1 Champion Partners with Starmer to Transform UK Schools
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has met with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to push forward education reform through his charitable initiative, Mission 44. Launched in 2021, the foundation aims to create a more inclusive and equitable education system for young people, particularly in underrepresented communities. The meeting marks a significant step in Hamilton’s ongoing mission to tackle systemic inequality and improve opportunities in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.
Reflecting on his own difficult experiences in school, Hamilton has been open about struggling with bullying, racism, and long-term mental health challenges stemming from his youth. He revealed in 2024 that these early hardships deeply impacted his well-being and shaped his passion for reform. Through Mission 44, he seeks to amplify student voices and remove barriers that prevent young people from reaching their potential.
At the heart of the conversation with Prime Minister Starmer was a new framework designed to boost student engagement and ensure schools better support vulnerable learners. Following the meeting, Hamilton expressed pride and optimism, noting that the government has committed to partnering with Mission 44 to implement more inclusive policies.
