Broncos Sensation Blake Mozer Dismisses Exit Rumors, Vows to Fight for No.9 Jersey

Rising Brisbane Broncos hooker Blake Mozer has addressed recent speculation regarding his future, making it clear that his priority remains with the club. Mozer, who remains off-contract beyond the 2025 NRL season, was rumored to have engaged in talks with rival teams, including the Gold Coast Titans. However, the talented young rake has denied these claims, emphasizing that his main focus is on rehabilitation and returning to the field.

Mozer made his NRL debut in Round 27 of the 2023 season and has since been regarded as one of Brisbane’s most promising prospects. Drawing comparisons to legendary hooker Cameron Smith, he was even considered the frontrunner for the Broncos’ No.9 jersey in 2024 before a shoulder injury sidelined him for the opening rounds. Despite this setback, the 2024 Broncos Rookie of the Year remains optimistic about his future with the club and is determined to work his way back into the squad.

Speaking to The Sydney Morning Herald, Mozer clarified that no discussions with other teams had taken place. “I haven’t spoken to any other clubs. There was a report saying I had, but I actually haven’t,” he said. “Right now, my focus is on my rehab. I need to get back to playing at my best, and to do that, I have to lock in and recover properly.”

While his future remains uncertain, Mozer expressed his desire to stay at the Broncos for as long as possible. “There’s a spot for me if I’m willing to work for it, and that’s exactly what I want to do. I’d love to stay at the Broncs, but in the end, it’s not up to me—it’s up to my management and the club.”

Broncos coach Michael Maguire has also weighed in on Mozer’s importance to the team, reaffirming his desire to retain the young star. “I’d love to keep him,” Maguire told The Courier-Mail. “Blake is great to coach. He’s a diligent player who wants to learn and improve, which is crucial for a hooker. They drive a lot of what happens on the field, both in attack and defense.”

Maguire praised Mozer’s work ethic, particularly during the preseason, and believes the young hooker has what it takes to be a long-term leader for the Broncos. “He’s been putting his body on the line, and once his shoulder is back to full strength, he’ll be a key part of our squad.”
