Broncos five-eighth Ezra Mam has been handed a reality check, with coach Michael Maguire reportedly ordering him to work on a job site while his career sits in limbo.

Mam’s court hearing is scheduled for December 16 and he was hit with drug driving and unlicensed driving charges by police following an car crash on October 18.

The playmaker collided head-on with an Uber driver carrying a woman and her four-year-old daughter in Brisbane and three days later checked himself into a rehab centre.

With his career at a crossroads, Mam has now reportedly began working unpaid on a job site in Brisbane since checking out of the facility according to Code Sports.

Mam is now on the tools five days a week, starting his days at 5am similarly to Eels recruit Josh Addo-Carr who spent time on the work site during his NRL exile.

Maguire is reportedly adamant the Broncos won’t be sacking Mam, however Brisbane bosses are planning to be without the five-eighth for the entire 2025 season.

The Broncos have since signed veteran playmaker Ben Hunt on a two-year deal believed to be worth around $600,000 per-season.

Mam’s five-year contract worth a reported $4 million will reportedly remain in place, however he won’t attend pre-season training until January at the earliest.

The NRL Integrity Unit will reportedly keep a close eye on Mam’s court hearing before making a decision regarding potential fines or suspensions for the playmaker.
