Snooker Royalty Roll Out on Green Carpet as Champions Unite for Historic Prelude to Crucible Showdown

In a festive lead-up to the 2025 World Snooker Championship, a series of exciting events has set the tone for what promises to be an unforgettable tournament. On Good Friday, a special ‘green carpet ceremony’ will see some of snooker’s biggest stars—including reigning champion Kyren Wilson and current world number one Judd Trump—walk a green carpet that will stretch from the Winter Garden to the iconic Crucible Theatre in Sheffield. The ceremony pays tribute to the sport’s elite, offering fans a rare chance to see their heroes up close.

This event coincides with the traditional media day, where charismatic MC Rob Walker will host live interviews and giveaways in Tudor Square. Adding to the excitement, fans will also get to challenge professional players in the Fanzone, where smaller snooker tables have been set up for some light-hearted competition and interaction.

Adding prestige to the Championship build-up, the night before featured the inaugural WPBSA Players World Champions Dinner, a landmark event held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sheffield. Modeled after golf’s Masters Champions Dinner at Augusta National, this special evening gathered 11 former World Champions in celebration of their historic achievements. Attendees included legendary figures such as Stephen Hendry, Steve Davis, Cliff Thorburn, Dennis Taylor, and more recent champions like Shaun Murphy, Neil Robertson, and Stuart Bingham. Each was presented with a bespoke ‘Champions Jacket’—designed by McCann Bespoke in London—emblazoned with the World Championship trophy logo, their name, and the year they won the title.

WPBSA Players Chairman Ken Doherty, the 1997 World Champion, welcomed guests with heartfelt remarks, celebrating the passion and legacy each champion brings to the game. He also extended special thanks to Kyren Wilson for co-hosting the evening, praising his victory last year as a symbol of resilience and excellence.

These celebrations have not only honored the sport’s rich history but also built palpable excitement for the battles to come on the Crucible stage.
