Rex Ryan’s Triumphant Return? Ex-Jets Coach Poised for Comeback Interview

Rex Ryan, the former head coach of the New York Jets, appears to be edging closer to a return to the NFL. The 62-year-old, who has openly expressed his desire to rejoin the league, is reportedly set to interview for the Jets’ head coaching position on Tuesday.

Ryan previously helmed the Jets from 2009 to 2014, compiling a 46-50 record over six seasons. His tenure included a remarkable start, with back-to-back trips to the AFC Championship Game in his first two years. Those playoff runs remain the Jets’ last postseason appearances, marking Ryan’s tenure as a bright spot in the franchise’s recent history. After his time with the Jets, Ryan coached the Buffalo Bills for two seasons, finishing with a 15-16 record before stepping away from coaching.

The Jets have been searching for a new leader since parting ways with Robert Saleh on October 8. At the time of his dismissal, the team had a 2-3 record. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich managed the team through the remainder of the season, but the Jets finished a disappointing 5-12.

To aid in the search for both a new head coach and general manager, owner Woody Johnson enlisted The 33rd Team, a consulting group founded by former NFL executives Mike Tannenbaum and Rick Spielman. As Ryan prepares for his interview, fans are left wondering if the outspoken coach can rekindle the success of his early Jets tenure.
