Ambry Thomas, a former third-round pick for the San Francisco 49ers, has faced a tumultuous journey in the NFL. Frustrated with his situation, Thomas voiced his discontent on X, writing, “Been dust collecting since week 8, Check! Make a move anywhere anything!” This post seemingly spurred the 49ers to place him on release waivers earlier this week, signaling the end of his disappointing stint with the team.

Initially, it seemed Thomas had found a fresh start when the Indianapolis Colts claimed him off waivers. However, just a day later, his prospects dimmed again when he failed the Colts’ physical examination. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Colts cited lingering issues with his forearm injury as the reason for the failed physical, despite the 49ers having cleared him over a month ago. Thomas’ agent, Drew Rosenhaus, stood by his client, asserting, “Ambry feels good and is ready to play. My prediction is he will pass his next physical.”

The situation raises questions about Thomas’ health and readiness, further complicating his NFL future. Once a promising rookie who played a key role in the 49ers’ push to the 2021 playoffs, Thomas has struggled to maintain that form in subsequent years. His performance declined, and he eventually lost his role to fellow 2021 draft pick Deommodore Lenoir, a fifth-round selection.
