Try-Scoring Machine: Arthars Surpasses Career Best as Broncos Eye Panthers Showdown
Broncos winger Jesse Arthars is enjoying a stellar season in 2025, having already crossed the try line 10 times — eclipsing his previous best of nine tries in 2023, when the Broncos surged into the NRL Grand Final. His strong form hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Arthars is quick to credit his teammates for the uptick in performance, particularly veteran half Ben Hunt, known affectionately as “Dozer.”
“I’m just going to put it all on Dozer,” Arthars said. “Having him at the club has helped me out a lot. He’s lifted everyone around him in different positions, and I guess I’ve just been fortunate enough to finish off a few tries because of that.”
Arthars also heaped praise on club captain Adam Reynolds, who is fighting through a staph infection and a shoulder injury sustained during the Round 8 win over the Bulldogs. Despite the setbacks, Reynolds completed training and is expected to lead the side again this weekend.
“Ren was good today. He got through all the training, and it was great to have him back running our shapes. I hope he plays — he lifts the boys every time he’s out there. Personally, I love playing off Reyno, and a lot of my tries are thanks to his assists.”
The Broncos’ attack has found another gear recently, with Arthars’ wing partner Deine Mariner making a strong return after time away from the top grade. Mariner bagged a double in his comeback and used his time off to sharpen the areas head coach Michael Maguire asked him to improve.
“There’s a lot of competition in our squad, and those four weeks off helped me refocus,” Mariner said. “I worked on areas where I was falling short and just came back stronger.”
Looking ahead, Arthars is anticipating a fierce test against Penrith — a dominant force in the NRL over the past several seasons. But the challenge is one he welcomes.
“They’ve been one of the top sides for years, and it’s always a big matchup,” he said. “But I don’t focus on the ladder — we just take it week by week. There are no easy games in the NRL.”
Ready for another big performance, Arthars is embracing the pressure and eyeing more success with the Broncos.
