As the 2025 NBA offseason rolls on, the Los Angeles Lakers find themselves at yet another crossroads. Rumors have swirled around potential moves that could reshape the roster, from bold trades to possible departures of star players. Among the players previously linked to the Lakers is Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins — a former NBA champion and former No. 1 overall pick. Despite the speculation, it now appears that the Lakers are not interested in acquiring Wiggins, according to recent reporting.
Dan Woike of The Athletic joined ESPN’s Zach Lowe on The Lowe Post podcast, where they discussed the Lakers’ trade outlook. Lowe noted that the Lakers had “sniffed around” Wiggins as a potential trade option. However, Woike quickly shut down the possibility, saying, “They’re not interested in Andrew Wiggins. I think I can put that to bed. I’m pretty confident on that front.”
Wiggins, who is owed $109 million over the next three seasons, no longer appears to be in the Lakers’ plans — if he ever truly was. One of the sticking points in any potential deal is what the Heat (another team reportedly in the mix) or the Warriors would want in return. The Lakers, already limited in assets and flexibility, seem reluctant to engage in a trade that doesn’t offer a clear upside or fits awkwardly with their current timeline.
Interestingly, any significant move by the Lakers this summer — whether it’s a high-profile trade or a splashy free-agent signing — comes with a looming question: Will LeBron James still be part of the team? Sources suggest that if the Lakers do make a major change, it’s just as plausible that James could be traded as it is that he stays and welcomes a new co-star, such as Luka Dončić or Bam Adebayo, both of whom have been linked to L.A. in speculative rumors.
For now, Wiggins is off the table — and the Lakers’ next move remains a mystery.
